It’s Not (Just) Ice Cream, It’s An Art!

Indonesia Gelato Competition 2018 at Lotus Food Services, Jimbaran


Lotus Food Services hospitality and culinary center, together with Carpigiani – world leading manufacturer of gelato and ice cream machines, commenced a prestigious Indonesia Gelato Competition 2018 event.
Held on 9-10 February at the headquarter of Lotus Food Services in Jimbaran, Bali, the event gather together 19 aspiring gelato chefs from around the country to showcase their talent in creating the worldwide favorite Italian frozen goodness. Many of the contestants push their creativity out of the box and comes up with unique flavors inspired from traditional Indonesian treats; from klepon, bubur Madura, peyeum, es teler, to semur daging – which made by combining savory beef floss with creamy cinnamon and lime gelato.


The jury panel of the event was composed from expert in various fields of culinary scene; such as Chef Rahmat Kusnedi; President of Indonesia Pastry Alliance (IPA), Chef I Made Kona; the advisor of IPA, Augyawati Joe; Vice Director of Finance and Business Development of Bali International Polytechnic University, Hendra Oktaviano; Director of Passion Media, and Valentina Righi; PR of Gelato World Cup and Academican of Accademia Italiana Della Cucina.
After extensive assessment process by three main parameters; flavor, structure and presentation, the jury panel finally determined the top-three of this first-ever Indonesia Gelato Competition; namely Alvin Tanudjaya from Latteria Jakarta with Moscato Tea Gelato on the 3rd position, Cassandra Mellim from St. Regis Bali with Banana Hazelnut on the 2nd position, and Jovita Rainy Pranata from Francelle Ice Cream Jakarta with her unique take of Peyeum Geulis (fermented cassava) gelato on the 1st place. As the winner, Jovita will go on to represent Indonesia at Asian Gelato Cup in Singapore from 24-27 April 2018, out of which the top-three teams then will get the chance to compete at the highly anticipated World Gelato Cup 2020 in Rimini, Italy.

Pusat keramahtamahan (hospitality) dan kuliner Lotus Food Service, bersama dengan Carpigiani – pabrik pembuat mesin gelato dan es krim terkemuka dunia, baru saja menggelar acara prestisius Indonesia Gelato Competition 2018.


Diadakan di markas pusat Lotus Food Services di bilangan Jimbaran, Bali, acara tersebut mengumpulkan 19 gelato chef dari seluruh Indonesia untuk menunjukkan kebolehan mereka meracik kudapan dingin nan lezat ala Italia yang telah menjadi favorit di seluruh penjuru dunia. Banyak dari kontestan yang betul-betul mendorong kreativitas mereka keluar batas untuk menciptakan rasa unik yang terinspirasi dari jajanan tradisional Indonesia; seperti klepon, bubur Madura, peyeum, es teler, hingga semur daging yang memadukan abon sapi renyah dengan gelato creamy bercitarasa kayu manis dan jeruk limau nan segar.


Panel juri di ajang tersebut terdiri dari para pakar dalam sejumlah bidang kuliner; diantaranya Chef Rahmat Kusnedi; Presiden dari Aliansi Pastry Indonesia (IPA), Chef I Made Kona; penasihat IPA, Augyawati Joe; Wakil Direktur Divisi Pengembangan Bisnis dan Finansial Universitas Politeknik Internasional Bali, Hendra Oktaviano; Direktur dari Passion Media, dan Valentina Righi; PR dari Gelato World Cup dan Akademis dari Universitas Accademia Italiana Della Cuccina.


Setelah proses penilaian menyeluruh dengan tiga parameter utama; rasa, strukrur dan presentasi, panel juri akhirnya memilih tiga besar dari Indonesia Gelato Competition gelaran pertama ini; yakni Alvin Tanudjaya dari Latteria Jakarta dengan Moscato Tea Gelato di posisi ketiga, Cassandra Mellim dari St. Regis Bali dengan Banana Hazelnut di posisi kedua, dan Jovita Rainy Pranata dari Francelle Ice Cream Jakarta dengan kreasi unik Peyeum Geulis gelato di peringkat puncak. Sebagai pemenang kompetisi, Jovita akan mewakili Indonesia di Asian Gelato Cup pada tanggal 24 – 27 April mendatang di Singapura, dimana tim yang menempati posisi tiga besar akan mendapat kesempatan untuk bersaing secara global di gelaran akbar World Gelato Cup di Rimini, Italia, tahun 2020 mendatang.
